No. But we did have a fun vintage shop in Ocean Grove New Jersey called Kitch and Kaboodle before we opened Lavender Fields.

Now a little about me you may have not known...
I am a single mom with a beautiful 9 year old daughter. Ava Rose was raised in our store so all the locals remember her from when she was a little baby. She now loves helping me in the shop and can often be found showing customers all of her favorite things. We live in a historic house in Port Jefferson village we which are lovingly restoring for years! We took a break from restoration work but will be back at it soon and will feature all our projects on the blog. I am a vegan and Ava is a vegetarian (almost vegan at this point). We love animals and have a wonderful fun dog named Harry who we rescued from a bad place in 2004 and we also have several funny cats their photos pop up now and then on our instagram feed. We also rescue cats and do tnr in our neighborhood. I am on the board of a non-profit called Port Jefferson Cat Care with my good friend and local natural doctor Doni Wilson. Visit our instagram page for more info pjcatcare.

I grew up traveling the world with my parents and sister so I have always had a love for travel and a love for finding unique products. My dad had a passion for antiques so we would often spend our time at antique markets and yard sales. We grew up going to a cabin in Smallwood, New York right outside of Bethel the site of Woodstock. We spent our summers in the country and loved it.

I am passionate about finding a cure for lyme disease. I contracted lyme on a hike in 1995 and went undiagnosed for years. I spend a lot of my free time trying to help others with lyme find the care they need. Ava and I both love art, music and yoga and you can find us in the yoga studio at least once a week and we practice at home daily. When we are not working, going to school or practicing yoga we are off creating something or taking a walk in our beautiful town.

I think that covers it! Glad to share a little of my history and answer some questions about Lavender Fields!

Our Home for the Holidays

Being in the retail business it is easy to get caught up in the holiday rush and forget to take the time to just enjoy your own home. I have learned over the years to start decorating early so I can really enjoy it whenever I am home. This year I started right before Thanksgiving and I am so glad I did. We really took the time to cherish our home and enjoy our special decorations that we have collected over the years. Here is a little peak into our home decorated for the holidays.

From Our House to Your House We Wish You the Most Wonderful Holiday and the Happiest and Healthiest New Year!

So much to share with you!

I have so many projects I want to share with you! So little time always! If you have been following me for the last 10 years you will know I am always working on my 1920's Arts and Crafts style home. It is always a work in progress. Summertime seems to be the time when I get the most done so I have a lot to share with you and I am so excited.

A little background first for anyone that does not know me. I am a single mom with a beautiful kind hearted soon to be 7 year old daughter named Ava Rose. We live in a big old house and have lots of furry rescued friends. They make our home. I also have a retail shop in Port Jefferson Village, New York and an online shop which you probably know about if you reached this blog. Juggling it all can be very challenging but I would not have it any other way. I love everything about my life and I love sharing it all with you.

So for this summer here is my lineup of projects. Some are not always so much fun as there is a lot of basic upkeep on a big old house.

For outside:

  • I just had a picket fence put in the front of the house and we have been busy painting it. Ava Rose is a big help! (beautiful but not so much fun painting!)
  • I am also working on adding a few new garden beds and weeding and mulching. (not so much fun! it's hot!)
  • We are adding to our fairy garden and expanding it. (fun!)
  • We are also planning on doing a beautiful mosaic when the weather cools down a bit. (fun!)
  • Refinishing old vintage outdoor furniture. I selected a pretty robin's egg blue for the color. (fun!)

Inside:

  • Painting all the baseboards and radiators (not so much fun!)
  • Planning a guest bathroom makeover. This has been real fun I am work with Dawn from My Hydrangea Home on this project and it is coming very soon! (super fun!)
  • Installing new bamboo floors in my office and soon to be family room. (super fun!)
  • Painting all trim. The trim gets yucky and needs to be refreshed often. (not so much fun!)
I will have lots of pictures to share with you real soon for now I need to get back to work!
